Do you think I was in the wrong?

So I got home from work around 7:45pm and on my door was a note from the management saying that they signed for a package for me. Well the package was for my girlfriend and she had been looking forward to it for a while so I went to the managers apartment to get it. I knocked on the door and when he opened it I got a very rude "The hell do you want" it sorta through me off. " There was a note on my door that said you had a package for me, I'm just picking it up". Now there is a sign on the door that says managers hours are from 9am to 5pm. But I wasn't going to them as a manger, but as a neighbor. Then he says and I quote " Can you not ******* read?" I start to apologize but he cuts me off. "Can't you ******* read, dont ******* do this **** again" and throws the package at me. I stood there stunned for a minute trying to fathom what had just happened. It was only after I had gotten back into my apartment that I realized A. that I had answered my phone and my girlfriend heard the whole thing and B. I had the overwhelming urge to hit that guy. Was I in the wrong here? Because I don't think it was to much trouble to hand me a small package. Its not like I knocked on the door at midnight.
