Is alimony an out dated idea?

Alimony is necessary. I'll tell you my story and then maybe you'll understand why its necessary. I'm college educated and so is my ex. husband. When we decided to have children, we decided that I would stay home with them because child care cost $800 a month per child! Essentially, I would be working full time for free to have someone watch the kids. During this time, my husband, a lawyer formed a law firm with other lawyers and started making very good money. He also starting having affairs, one with a stripper, who he left me for. I live in a state that has really been hit by the economic down turn and I can't find a job as a math teacher. Do you think that it is fair that I don't get alimony, I can't find a job, the children and I have to leave out house (selling it for a loss), so that he can walk into the sunset with a stripper? He is supporting her and her kids. She has no college education. Alimony is necessary to level the playing field. I now have time to get the work experience that I gave up to raise our kids. Not having alimony would not be fair.
