Help getting to know stepson?

I've been married for a couple of years now, but I am new to being a step parent. My stepson (7 yrs) will be visiting for the summer which I'm excited/nervous about. Nervous because I'm awkward around children, was never good at it when I was younger. Excited because I'd like to get to know him. I screwed it up a couple of years back because I didn't want to tag along on outings with him. He's a great kid so please don't think I have anything against him.. I just didn't want to cut in on father-son time. I'll be spending a lot of the time alone with him and I was hoping for suggestions on fun activities I can do with him, so I can get to know him better. I play World of Warcraft and was thinking about teaching him how to play.. but on second thought, probably not age appropriate. Help please?
