Is it normal for your tongue to sit between teeth with TMJ and an overjet?

My tongue used to be very comfortable behind my front teeth. Ever since Saturday, I've had TMJ and I think it's caused an overjet. Now, my tongue will only fit in between my teeth, and it's VERY annoying. Is this normal?
